"We have a really great atmosphere and an amazing bunch of people." - David
I like the remote concept, the familiar atmosphere, the absence of original rigid hierarchical corporate thinking and of course our product, hemp. It’s a future market, super various and sustainable.
The great thing about working in a Startup is the possibility to really move something. In other companies the structures are often very rigid, everyone is a specialist for his own little topic and does just work in that space. With Startups however you have the opportunity to work at many different things.
I have known our CEO Florian for a long time when he asked me to join the company. I was in the middle of my master's degree in industrial engineering at the time, and the remote work, the topic of hemp and the fact that the job I would then be doing didn't fit into the normal office standards led to me being told that I'd better look into something real. But I thought it was a great opportunity and agreed immediately. I like the remote concept, the familiar atmosphere, the absence of original fixed hierarchical corporate thinking and of course our product, hemp. It’s a future market, super various and sustainable.
For my surroundings, hemp itself wasn’t a problem. Of course, when you meet someone and the first thing you say is: "I'm doing something with hemp", it might come across a bit funny. But once I explain what we are doing everyone finds it very interesting.
I myself didn’t know a lot about hemp and hemp products before I started at Signature. They were simply not in my horizon. Did you know, for example, that ropes made of hemp have been used for many thousands of years? I did not. I did not know either that hemp can grow more or less everywhere and my list of things you can make from hemp becomes longer every day.
My favourites among our products are the full spectrum hemp extract which we sell white label and the hemp protein 70%. I use them nearly every day for example for a tasty protein shake.
The position I have in the team is difficult to describe because it’s quite broadly diversified, which I like very much. I do basically all sales activities from acquisition of new customers to after sales activities. I work a lot on process development, together with our CTO Max, who takes care of our IT structure and processes. I really like this wide spectrum of exercises which you probably only get in a Startup.
The start of my day is always very different. Some days I get up directly for the first meeting and just get ready briefly and then sit down at the laptop and on other days I get up a little bit earlier and start the day with a cup of coffee. This is possible thanks to our remote company type and I use the flexibility I got from this more or less all the time.
But working remotely is not just flexibility but a big thing of trust as well. I have the freedom to organize my day the way it works best for me, because the leadership trusts me. So trust is a very important thing at Signature. Although I also like working together with others in an office, remote work is the most efficient way of working for me. I mean, you can even work when you're travelling to an appointment with a customer or somewhere else. Café, airport or train aren’t a problem. And if it is great weather you can just sit outside on your terrace and work there.
Apart from the daily sales kickoff call in the morning where we talk about problems, possible solutions and motivate each other, the sales work is often very controlled from the outside. I schedule a lot of meetings with clients to discuss things and plan the rest of the day, where I mainly make a lot of phone calls and write a lot of emails, around these meetings. I love the contact with the customers and also to make them happy of course.
The free time management of remote work allows me to use the time of my day the way I want to. For example when I have to get some things done I like going in the morning because it's less busy then. To compensate, I then work longer in the evenings or do a bit at the weekend. I don’t have a clear closing time, It’s more like an open end and I enjoy this a lot.
What makes Signature for me is the fun at work when working with customers but also with our magnificent team. In all the time I've worked for Signature, there hasn't been a single day when I've thought, "Oh my God. Not working with these idiots again.". Quite the opposite. We have a really great atmosphere and an amazing bunch of people.
I’m very happy and proud to be part of this awesome company and I’m excited about what the future holds.
