Before joining Signature, I worked at various start-ups in an international environment, mainly in business development or purchasing.
I have always looked for a company where I see myself and where I stand 100% behind the product and with Signature I found exactly what I was looking for. The first thing that comes to my mind, when I think about Signature, is this amazing team we have here. I love the people I work with and it’s great to have a role in the company where I can contribute with my knowledge, have a broad task spectrum with responsibility and see the impact of my work.
Another thing I really like about Signature is the flexibility I have in my daily work life. I love working remotely and the freedom that comes with it. It makes a big difference for me to be able to work from anywhere I want, and I appreciate that every single day. People often ask me how I can like working where others are spending their holidays. But this is exactly what motivates me. I want to do my job as best as possible to be able to continue working for this great company while having this free lifestyle, whether I'm in Fuerteventura, Portugal or at any other place.
This flexibility also determines my everyday working routine in the sense that every day is very different from the other, which I love because it never gets boring. The best way to describe what I’m doing in the team is basically that I’m doing not one but many different things.
I take care of a lot of operational things, like ordering articles for our stock, and taking care of the orders from our customers so that everyone gets what they ordered. The second big topic is sourcing. This means I look after new products we don’t have yet or what products could be relevant in the future and where we can get them from. For this I get in touch with new suppliers and build relationships. The third part of my work is process improvement, where I try to figure out how we can improve processes and make them better and more efficient.
Despite the fact that I always have a lot to do, I really enjoy doing things on my own schedule. For example I like to do something for myself and find my own balance before starting to work in the morning. In fact the morning is my favourite part of the day. Everything is still calm and slow and when walking around outside in nature or on the beach, you are almost alone and can enjoy for yourself.
I used to like to meditate or do a bit of yoga, but at the moment I love to go surfing in the morning, it's the best start. So if the weather is right and the waves are good, you can find me on the beach at 7:30 in the morning. After surfing I feel really awake and ready to start my day.
When I start working I usually make myself a cup of coffee and check my emails, Slack and all the other messenger services. After that, I break down what I have to do today and make a list of my priorities.
The rest of the day is flexible and really depends on what tasks I am currently working on. Besides responding to requests, scheduled meetings and recurring tasks, where I have put a blocker in, I mainly don't have fixed times when I do what. That's why I often can't plan my day, but have to be spontaneous which I actually quite enjoy.
Hemp has been an important part of my life for a long time now. I’ve always been very interested in a healthy lifestyle and how I can get all the vitamins and nutrients I need by eating whole foods and not through supplements. Because of this I’ve started eating hemp seeds in my morning muesli quite early. A bit later I also started to try out CBD oils and noticed that they do me good although I’ve never been someone who is very stressed or can’t sleep well. I recommended CBD to my family and with time they started loving it as well. My mother, for example, had sleep problems and felt much better after taking CBD. I have never heard of anyone I have recommended CBD to, having had a bad experience with it.
I wanted to know more about this special plant and with every day I work at Signature and deal with hemp, I learn more about it and all it’s diverse possible uses such as concrete, textiles, food, feed, paper, toilet paper and nappies. I feel like there is nearly nothing you can’t do with hemp. At the moment I find hemp protein totally exciting. It’s great as a vegan protein source, you can use it in Shakes and in vegan meat alternatives too. I believe it has great potential and that many more products made from hemp protein will be entering the market in the coming years.
Of course there are still people who think that we spend all our days smoking weed and doing illegal business, but happily the openness towards hemp is growing and more and more people are getting interested in hemp and want to know more about it.
I’m really happy to be a part of this growing market and be able to tell people more about hemp.
I think we have an educational role as a company to bring hemp into society and show that it is much more than just weed, it is a plant so diverse and special and that’s what I love about it.
