Signature Products on TV? The SWR report on our research project

On Saturday, July 16, 2022, Signature Products was featured by German TV broadcaster SWR in its report on the environmental impact of meat production. We had the opportunity to present our work on developing regional and sustainable meat alternatives made from hemp protein. SWR is the second largest broadcaster in Germany and produces daily up-to-date content from the areas of education, advice, entertainment and culture for a wide audience.

A few days before the broadcast, the SWR team met with Professor Simone Graeff-Hönninger and part of the Signature Products team (Florian, Tobias, Paul and I) in front of the testing area of the University of Hohenheim.

In front of our hemp fields, we talked about our regional hemp cultivation in southern Germany and presented our hemp research project TASTINO, which we run together with the University of Hohenheim. Both parties have clearly divided areas of responsibility: Signature Products works on the development of the edibles, while the University's cultivation systems and modeling group focuses on optimizing hemp cultivation and hemp seed quality.

Carbon Sequestration: How Hemp can help clean the air
Industrial hemp is known as the king of carbon sequestration among crops. Growing industrial hemp can be crucial in fighting carbon emissions and improving our soils for sustainable production of all agricultural commodities.

We also talked about the high level of sustainability and environmental friendliness in the production of our hemp protein as well as the effectiveness of hemp in storing carbon.

We then went into the kitchen and gave a little insight into some of the meat alternatives we had already developed. Florian prepared our Hemp Schnitzel while answering the questions of the shooting team. The only main ingredient required for our meat substitute is protein powder obtained from hemp seeds, which is mixed with water and other natural ingredients. Of course, we did not reveal the exact recipe, which was devised by a vegan star chef - it will remain secret for the time being.
